About this tour
Kratovo sits inside the crater of an extinct volcano, with medieval stone bridges over its river and old Ottoman defence towers rising between the houses. In autumn the hills around the town turn amber and rust, which makes it a calm, cosy place to wander and stop for a Turkish coffee. Nearby, the Kuklica valley holds more than a hundred natural rock pillars. Local legend says they are a wedding party turned to stone. In the low autumn light the formations glow warm and brown, perfect for photos. It is an easy day: no hiking, short walks only, and everything is reached by car.
